Please be aware of a recent email scam we have encountered on the cub domain. The scammer has successfully spoofed the student's email so it appears he has access to the student's account. This is not true. The email actually originates from a Microsoft Express account. The scammer claims to have your password and accessed your contacts, website visits, files, photos, etc. The scammer then attempts to extort a ransom in bitcoin to avoid sending your sensitive data out to all of your contacts. This is a known extortion scam. If your receive one of these scam emails, please forward the email to the Help Desk and then delete it.
We have worked with Google this morning to add an additional layer of protection to help prevent your email from being spoofed, but it won't protect against receiving similar scam emails from other external sources.
Please report any suspicious email to the Help Desk so we can continue to research scam attempts and keep everyone updated on the latest scams we encounter.
