Mobile Device Management (MDM) Change for UCA-owned Apple DevicesApril 26, 2024 at 1:43 PMThis UCA IT change communication is intended only for those faculty and staff members who utilize UCA-owned Apple devices, such as iMacs, Mac minis, and MacBooks.
Upcoming Change Description
This is notification that UCA IT will be transitioning our mobile device management (MDM) system from Mosyle to Jamf for UCA-owned Apple devices. This specific change does not impact other UCA-owned devices.
The actual timing of this change will be communicated in the very near future with a target of June and July for the migration of devices. Please be aware that timely action will be required by device users to avoid potential data loss. This process should be something that you can do on your own and will not require an IT resource involvement if completed within the communicated change window. If your MDM update has not been completed prior to the change deadline, UCA IT resources will need to be engaged to ensure your device is updated properly.
What is Jamf and why is this necessary?
Management of these devices is nothing new; we have been using Mosyle as our MDM for several years. We are simply transitioning to Jamf as it has become the industry standard, especially in the higher education market. As with Mosyle, one of the ways that we will use Jamf is to ensure proper/required updates are initiated on your iMac, Mac mini, and MacBook devices. These device updates are mandatory for UCA-owned devices and will help ensure certain vulnerabilities that can negatively impact the university are addressed. Jamf will open additional possibilities to help us better provide the support needed for Mac devices.
More information will be provided when we have the timeline set. Please stay alert for future communications regarding actions needed.
