Email Phishing ReminderJanuary 13, 2022 at 2:32 PMDear Campus Community,
Welcome back!
As we start the Spring 2022 semester, the IT Department would like to remind you to be diligent in your review of emails and be aware of those that look suspicious or are coming from senders that you don’t recognize. Phishing is the most common type of cyber-attack and cause a lot of issues including compromising personal and university information.
Although we do have controls in place to catch a good number of these types of emails, we do rely on you to not only maintain your diligence but to also report those back into our IT Help Desk.
To avoid being impacted by these phishing attempts, there are a few things you can do:
• Do not click on links or open attachments from senders that you do not recognize
• Do not provide any sensitive personal information over email (e.g. SSN, passwords, etc)
• If an email comes from an unrecognized sender, check the sender’s email address for slight variances in what
would normally be expected
• Inspect URLs carefully to make sure they are legitimate
• Be cautious about communications you were not expecting
If you are concerned about an email, you may report it to the IT Help Desk (ithelpdesk@uca.edu)
If you have any questions, please contact the IT Helpdesk at 501.450.3107, itsupport@uca.edu, or https://uca.edu/go/itsupport/.
Thank You,
