Email Phishing Alert

January 24, 2019 at 5:03 PM
Dear Campus Community,

We have another active email phishing attempt. This time the scammer is trying to make you think you received an email from the Help Desk saying that Mike Lloyd shared a file with you and asking you to download the content. Things to observe on suspicious emails: The sender email address is "helpdesk9092@gmail.com" which is not a valid UCA internal email. Receiving an email regarding a file or request to follow a link that you are not expecting and using an external cloud service (in this case it was OneDrive instead of Google) should always require a little more scrutiny. It is impossible to completely stop scammers from creating email addresses on legitimate domains like gmail, so awareness and training is our best defense.

Please let the Help Desk know of the suspicious emails you may receive. It is very likely this scammer will attempt the same ruse with other administrators on campus.

If you have any questions, please contact the IT Helpdesk at 501.450.3107, itsupport@uca.edu, or http://uca.edu/go/itsupport/.
