Model descriptors, letters after the model number:
n - Networking - To be on the network it requires built-in Ethernet.
d - Duplex - Built-in or attachable functionality for automatic two-sided printing.
w - Wireless - Wireless printers will not work with the wireless network on campus because the University's network requires user authentication. Wireless printers are unable to perform this step.
We recommend using a USB cable for all of your "personal" printing needs even if your printer has wireless capabilities.
Important note if you have a wireless printer. There is an excellent chance that your printer is broadcasting its own wireless network. This will cause wireless interference. Please ensure that your printer is not broadcasting.
HP printer there are two quick methods to disable the wireless broadcast feature.
Method 1: press the wireless button (if it has one) on the front of the printer for five seconds. The wireless light should shut off, indicating that the wireless has been disabled. Method 2: plug an Ethernet cable into your printer, this will automatically disable your wireless signal.
Duty Cycle - The specs for all business printers and most personal printers will include a number indicating the
maximum number of pages the device can print per month without failing. The typical personal printer's duty cycle will
be somewhere under 5000 pages, while a lower-end business printer will dwell in the 20,000-page range. Higher-end workhorses
boast duty cycles of 100,000 or more pages. Your print volume should fall well below the duty cycle of the model you're
considering--if it doesn't, look for a printer with an even higher limit (or expect your printer to have problems a lot sooner).
The duty cycle number is also indicative of the printer's durability: The higher the duty cycle, the better-built it probably is
Each model can come with one or all of these features changing the price. Verify the printer you want has the needed features.
Network printer need a network connection make sure there is one available for the printer. If not, a connection will have to be
put in at an addition cost.
