Microsoft Drops Support of Windows XP as of April 15, 2014
As you may have read, Microsoft has announced that it will stop supporting Windows XP as of April 15, 2014. While Microsoft will continue to provide malware-assassin updates until mid 2015, your computer will eventually become open to new vulnerabilities that are discovered with the operating system, but not patched.
If you currently are using a Lenovo R500 laptop or a Dell Optiplex 580 desktop that is still running Windows XP, Please look at the Microsoft Product License Key Label on the underside of the
R500 and the top of the case for the Optiplex 580 confirm that it has a Windows 7 Pro license and that all 25 digits in the code are readable, if both of these conditions are met, you are eligible
for an upgrade. For the Lenovo Laptop's, you need to bring them by the IT Helpdesk so we can upgrade your device from Windows XP to Windows 7. For the Dell Optiplex 580's, please notify the IT Helpdesk
at Helpdesk@uca.edu. Please include your contact and Location information in the email. The IT Helpdesk will submit a workorder to upgrade your Operating System from Windows XP to Windows 7.
